If you’re like most guys, you’ve probably seen a physiotherapist after throwing out your back, or maybe for an old sports injury. But did you know physio is great for day-to-day maintenance of your body, too?
Even with all the modern science about how our bodies work, it still takes an injury to get many guys to start seeing a physiotherapist. But remember: prevention is the best medicine! Regular tune-ups of up your body, joints and muscles can help you avoid potential injuries in the future.
Since May is National Physiotherapy Month, it’s a good time to check out how physiotherapy can benefit any man, no matter what you do! Check out our 3 great ways physiotherapy can improve your life:
- Prevention is the best medicine — Physiotherapists are trained to diagnose and treat aches and pains before they become bigger problems. If you follow their advice, chances are greater that your body will be more resilient, and you may even avoid popping pain medications or surgery.
- Get to know your pelvic floor — Physiotherapists report one in six men will experience pain in their bladder, bowels and/or prostate. These are called pelvic floor issues, and a specialized physiotherapist can offer good solutions to these problems. Since 50% of men will have a diagnosis of prostate pain or infection in their lifetime, it’s worth asking a physio (and your family doctor) to take a look.
- Physio is more than sports injuries — You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from seeing a physiotherapist. In fact, physios provide expert advice and rehabilitation on everything from poor posture to incontinence, and even on management of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes or heart disease.
If you’re experiencing ongoing pain or your body just needs a tune-up, remember that physiotherapy can help!
