A new study from the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation reveals half the population isn’t getting enough exercise, citing lack of motivation and time as the most significant barriers.

The national study conducted by Intensions Consulting surveyed 2,070 Canadian men aged 19 or older and highlights three key physical activity findings:

  • 50% of Canadian men are not getting at least 150 minutes of moderate to strenuous weekly exercise, per Canada’s 24-Hour Movement Guidelines
  • 42% of Canadian men reported that a lack of motivation prevents them from exercising more
  • 31% of Canadian men reported that not having enough time prevents them from exercising more

About the Study

The Intensions Consulting study was conducted in Canada between March 5 and 10, 2024. The sample was stratified to ensure its composition reflected the underlying distribution of the population as determined by 2021 Census data. The online survey was administered in French and English. A traditional probability sample of comparable size would have produced results considered accurate to within plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
