Peyronie’s Disease is a condition in which the fibrous sheath surrounding the erection chambers becomes thickened and scarred at one spot. This hampers expansion during an erection and results in a bend in the erection.

Sounds painful? Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn’t. It may be related to trauma, but a genetic predisposition to connective tissue fibrosis is thought to contribute as well. Even with a minor bend, erections can be affected. Mild cases may be left alone, but early treatment is sometimes warranted to halt the progression.

Promising new therapies have been developed; anyone who thinks he may have Peyronie’s should report to a physician promptly. Many men are too embarrassed to come forward early—your physician can help you determine a course of action that will benefit you in the long run.
